Deer Movement and Moonphase
Our Findings.
The moon haw a powerful controlling relationship with our earth. The ocean tides, weather patterns,wind direction, and many other factors we are now discovering are moon related. In addition this same influence effects the life forms that are on earth. During full moon periods police dept's, hospitals, violence all increase according to moonphase. If the moon has an effects upon humans then it surely effects deer and deer movement.
For several years our hunting club had taken notice that under certain phases of the moon we saw more deer than during other periods. We started keeping along with our normal harvest records, the moonphase, temperatures, wind speed and etc. We now have been keeping these records for 21 years and have also obtained information for other hunt clubs. With this information we have reached some conclusions. I will share our findings and hope you can use this information to plan and better use your hunting opportunities.
To better use our data we broke down the phases of the moon and used the amount of light available each night and our primary source of information. Along with the phase of the moon we recorded date, time, high and low temperatures, wind speed, visibility, barometric pressure and participation;. We only item that we found that directly affected was the phase of the moon and available light!
Our Conclusions
1. Fawn birth is related to moonphase
2. The rut is controlled by moonphase
3. Feeding times is controlled by moonphase
4. The best time to harvest a deer is a few day before and after the new moon
5. The best time to harvest a mature buck is a few day around the full moon.
6. The worst time to harvest deer is during the first quarter and last quarters
7. Best Hunting days can be predicted months even years in advance.
What was our data based on?
Total number of harvested deer in our data was 2,228. This information came from Deer clubs in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama and State Wildife
Agency's With moon light available less 25% the kill numbers were 604 male and 355 female. Moon light more than 25% but less than 50% resulted in 89 male and 184 female. Light of more the 50% and less than 75% resulted in 57 male and 63 female. Moon light more that 75% resulted with 442 male with 441 female being killed. This clearly shows when the best time for maximum hunting time should be spent.
The figures show that deer can be killed during any phase of the moon but clearly some phase are much better than others.
The only item we found that altered deer from their natural moonphase movement was temperatures. The higher the temperature the less the deer moved during legal shooting hours. On days when the temps were colder than normal deer movement was delayed until later in the day with primetimes being from 11 am until 2 pm.
In conclusion: Any day you can go hunting is a good day. You can increase your odds of success if you pick your days. This information is true and it works no bs here.
